A finales del siglo XIX, el italiano Juan Bautista Busca llegó a Zumárraga (País Vasco), junto con otros italianos, suizos y austriacos, para trabajar en los túneles ferroviarios Madrid-París. No solo trajeron su experiencia en la construcción de túneles alpinos, sino también pequeños acordeones diatónicos con los que se entretenían en su tiempo libre en los barracones donde vivían.
